Ready, Set… Action! The SECRET To Achieving Any Goal

Sat, Aug 21, 2010

Spirituality / Personal Growth

I cannot say it enough! Action, Action, Action! To be successful in anything you do you cannot just say you MUST DO! Put forth the marketing strategy, personal growth methods and schedule to ensure you are taking action each and everyday! This is a CRUCIAL part to achieving your goals and dreams. Write down a game plan and stick with it on a daily basis. Ensure you are working towards them everyday even when you have “one of those days”.

We have many priorities in our life that are on the top of our list. Now if we all sat down and were honest with ourselves we would find out that many of these priorities are not really priorities and are taking up much precious time that can be dedicated to building our future and business.

Examples of ‘So Called’ priorities that can either be cut down to a minimum or completely excluded  to give you more time, energy and focus on building a successful business and life:

1. That extra half hour of sleeping in, in the morning. First things first, waking up a little earlier and on a schedule actually gives you more energy. I know when I wake up early I feel much more productive than the days when I sleep in. I realized on the days I have slept in I do not have as much motivation to achieve my tasks for the day. Give yourself a extra half hour to hour in the morning and at night to contribute more to your business.

2. Television shows that are not benefiting you. Keep the TV watching to a minimum. Pick up a book, work on personal growth or do a task to grow your business. You will come to find how much you learn with that extra two hours a day (or more depending on your amount of TV time). I am not saying completely get rid of it but keep it down to a few hours a week at most.

These are just two examples, I bet you can think of a lot more! As you can see there are many ways to free up time to bring in more focus on growing a successful home business. This will allow you to implement the Action needed to build a successful business and team.

5 Action Steps to Creating Success:

1. Exclude certain time consuming things you do in your day that do not benefit you and replace them with productive, positive and helpful tasks. Make your business on the TOP of your list. On my list it is 1.My Family and 2.My Business… so this is where placing it on the TOP of your list is very beneficial to your success. If you treat it like a hobby, you will get hobby results. If you treat it like a business, you will get business results.

2. Create a schedule and STICK TO IT. What you want to do is make sure that most of your time is spent doing productive tasks that will bring you results… not ‘busy work’ as they call it. Busy work is organizing your desk, going through emails, sorting your bookmarks/favorites, updating websites, etc. These are things that can be done during down time. So right before bed or early in the morning. Make sure your schedule has all three parts that are essential to success:

  • Marketing Strategy
  • Consultation/Phone Time
  • Personal Growth/Development

These are a good base to start your schedule off with. Then just throw in the rest around the extra time available.

3. Marketing Strategy requires action. You must first game plan your marketing strategy. There are many ways to choose from… just find one way, MASTER it then move on to the next and MASTER that one. You will find much of these strategies in my blog here that will assist you on deciding what you feel is your path of marketing.

4. Consultation/Phone Time. You will come to find when you are taking part in growing through Online Marketing and many of the training within this blog that once you get going and growing you have people coming to you for information. Some will call, some will request it through opting into your autoresponder, some may email you. This must be a priority on your list. You want to answer their questions and give them the information needed. With that said, you will want to ensure you are implementing steps that will have them coming to you, calling you and going through the information before contacting you. This will make it much easier and simplified when on the phone or through email with them.

5. Personal Growth Time. This Action Step is crucial to your success. Success comes from learning, growing and willing to invest the time into personal growth and development on a daily basis. Read 10 pages of a book, listen to an audio while you are working online, watch an inspiring video… these are just a few examples of what you can do in small amounts of time daily and still be able to focus on building you as a leader and individual each and everyday.

Action is truly what you need to achieve anything with in your business. What you will come to find is that if you put forth the required action… you will eventually see it taking on a life of its own. The snowball effect if you will. But you must start now, start today and really spend your time wisely as it is crucial to put forth the action required to achieving your goals!

So what did you think? Please share any feedback or comments below… if you have anything that works for you, a method, a tool, etc. we would love to know! It is always much appreciated!

Hey Jenn this is an awesome list. I use to think a lot of the things I was doing in my business were constructive and on purpose and me being in action…. Needless to say given my language I soon realised that they weren’t!
Some things I realised were taking up my time was the constant checking of emails, spending to much time on social media socialising and not being in business mode and updating this that and everything else… Felt like I was busy but soon realised it was getting me no where :-)
Thanks for the awesome post you covered some great things here

    Great action list Jenn!

It is SOO true that taking Action is the key, in all areas. If you continue to make that a point, every day, then you will find it becomes HABIT to take action and your momentum actually builds!

Learning is so much fun and easier to do sometimes than implementing those things we’ve learned, so just ask yourself each day, what is it that I can do right now (instead of that extra half hour of sleep) for my business? One thing is that for personal growth, books on audio are great for mindless tasks like washing dishes or folding laundry!

Great reminders, thanks for an awesome post!

I always need these ACTION reminders! It is very hard for me to stick to a schedule and I think I found the culprits, my kids lol! But I’ve found when my daughter is at Pre-K for a couple hours in the morning and my other daughter is taking a nap…man I get A LOT done in that hour and a half! Focused work is killer to your business. Thanks for the good reminders!

    Hi Jennifer,

thanks for clarifying that there are a couple of so-called priorities in our lives that aren’t really priorities. A lot of that stuff has got to do with the ability of saying “no” to people, and to oneself.

    Take care

    Hi Jennifer,

Your post rings true in SO many aspects. I have found for myself that my family and my business have to be my priority because there are a million other things in the day that will come up and take my time away.

I think it’s also important to ask for help. So many times as business owners we feel like we have to wear all the hats. It’s okay to ask for help and to not try to do it all myself. It helps me to be more productive when I ask for help with the things that I don’t have to take care of myself. I ask for help with housework things, and asking my mom to watch my son on occasion so I can get some focused work time in, as well as outsourcing a few tasks related to my business that can be done by someone else.

    Great post!

@Heather Help is definitely necessary to ensure action steps are completed. Myself and my daughters work daily together keeping the house in order and clean. Since we work together it only takes less than an hour each day, so we feel much more at ease. My family helps out sometimes also, which truly assists in achieving certain tasks with peace and quiet! (Which is sometimes very difficult to get when you are a MOMpreneur or DADpreneur)

  9. John Engle Says:

    Hi Jennifer,

I am actually off of my schedule by 3 hours today, I won’t go into details why, but I will be starting on time tomorrow… my time for acknowledging the Unified Tribe members is scheduled between 11am and noon normally.

For me, keeping to a schedule has been a struggle over the summer months, but now that the kids are going back to school, I can start earlier in the morning like I wanted to.

Not harping on my girlfriend, but she loved to watch TV in our bedroom until all hours of the night (sometimes as late as 2am), which made it hard for me to fall asleep, plus get an early start. Now with the kids going back to school, she has to get up early too (2 of them are her kids), so now the late hours with the TV are not so important.

Thank you for your article… we all need some structure in our lives!

@John I can definitely vouch for summer months when having little ones. When both my girls are home it is a bit more difficult. I usually just get up a couple hours earlier and stay up a bit later during those months. Sounds like you have it a bit more under control now… great to hear! Thanks for the great feedback John!

    Hi Jenn,

As usual, a very insightful post! My favourite slogan has to be ‘Just Do It!’, and I simply do not feel good when I’m not taking action. Taking action is the pillar of empowerment! It’s what makes us feel like we’re moving forward and getting closer to our ambitions.

And even better is goal-oriented actions. I always ask myself: ‘Is what I am doing right now getting me closer to my goals’? If the answer is no, then surely there’s a better activity I could do! It’s also about applying the 80/20 rule, being focused, driven and effective (so that we get more time to just enjoy it! :-) )

Love your blog! Thanks for sharing your great inspiration and wisdom!

    Hey Jenn,

Awesome post my friend :) I find there’s so many people out there today that say things like:

“I really BELIEVE I can multiply my income.”

Yet when you watch their behavior you’d think they never heard of the idea nor did they have any belief in it at all. There’s a beautiful word that describes this perfectly and it’s called Praxis which simply means the integration of belief with behavior.

In other words, it simply means that people walk their talk. I wish there was more action takers in this world. Can you imagine how much better our world would be if everyone got off their butt and tried to add value to everyone’s lives? Maybe one day…

    See you at the top,

Excellent tips Jenn. I find right now working outside of the home 8hours/day and working part time at home. Takes alot of my time away from things I like and people I want to spend time with, but the outcome means so much more to me. Most people have Tivo and DVR’s (no excuses there)forget tv they people on there don’t know you and aren’t helping you acheive your goals. I usually wake up on the weekend before the rest of house does there’s a little work time right there. I guess it all boils down to hunger and learning how to balance it all out so that your dreams can finally come true. Awesome post.
